A loose 103 DTC and a 108 on Chester depot on 11 July 1971. Chester on certain Sundays in 1971 was a much more interesting place than usual as when the WCML between Acton Grange and Crewe was closed through trains from the North and Liverpool to Euston and Liverpool Cross Country services were diverted via Chester. This involved arriving through the station and running past the depot onto the Hooton line, then reversing round the curve onto the North Wales line, before setting off forward again round the curve to the station. Class 50 D426 is on the first leg on this operation on the 1P31 Euston to Carlisle service. The KDH Archive.

Class 103 M56161 at Chester depot on 22 March 1975. It is missing a coupling hook, route indicator blind cover, destination blind, the glass from one marker lamp, one jumper lead, and the throttle (or gear) controller has been extracted and is lying on the driver's desk. Alistair Ness.

Class 116 units on Chester depot, 16/5/76, they later formed the 18.20 Chester-Manchester Victoria. The vehicles were 50123 + 59486 (a Class 117 TCL) + 50081 coupled to 50866 + 59374 + 50919, which had just been transferred from Cardiff to Newton Heath, and for some reason the C on the set number has been replaced by a T. Anthony Griffiths.

A sorry-looking and heavily stripped Park Royal Class 103 Driving Trailer Composite Lavatory, car number M56153, was awaiting disposal at Chester depot on August 21st 1977. The car had been in a collision with a fallen tree on the Conway Valley line in January 1976 which had sealed its fate. 56155 is on the left. Martyn Hilbert.
